What is Ghost Margins?
Ghost Margins is a fanfiction and original fiction archive focused on simple browsing, flexible tagging, and reader choice.
Do I need an account to read?
No. Most works can be read without an account unless the author chooses to make a work available to registered users only.
Do I need an account to post?
Yes. You need a registered account to create and publish works.
Is Ghost Margins 18+?
Yes. Ghost Margins is intended for adults age 18 and older. Visitors are asked to confirm that they are 18+ when entering the site, and account registration also requires an 18+ acknowledgement.
Does Ghost Margins allow explicit fiction?
Works may include mature or explicit fictional content as long as they follow the site rules and applicable law. Authors are responsible for using accurate ratings and warnings.
Can I report a work?
Yes. Published works have a Report button that sends the report to site moderation for review.
What images can I use for covers and banners?
Keep visible artwork suitable for public display on a book shelf. No nudity or explicit sexual imagery, including exposed genitals or sexual acts. This applies to photos, illustrations, and AI-generated images. Mature fiction is permitted under the content rules, with accurate ratings and warnings.
How do I report a cover or banner?
Open the work, choose Report, then select Cover image or Work banner / header. Choose a reason and describe the issue. The report includes which image you flagged and its displayed address for moderation to review. A report does not automatically remove an image or work.
Can people advertise paid art commissions here?
Unsolicited paid art or cover-design pitches, repeated sales messages, pressure to pay, deceptive offers, and scam links are not allowed. Art sharing and artist credits are welcome. Report unwanted sales pitches or suspected scams using the comment or work Report option, and mute or block the account if needed.
Can I save stories for later?
Yes. Registered users can use Bookmarks and Read Later.
How do I hear about new chapters?
On a published work, tap Subscribe to Updates to follow that story. You can also follow a writer from their profile to hear about chapters from all their works. New chapters appear in My Library → Updates when they are published, including scheduled chapters. These are on-site updates, not emails. You can unsubscribe or unfollow at any time.
How many tags can I add to a work?
Each work can have up to 20 tags. This keeps browsing and search results readable while still giving authors room to describe their work.
Can I edit my work after publishing it?
Yes. Authors can edit their work information and chapters after publishing.
Can I save a work as a draft?
Yes. Works and chapters can be saved as drafts before publishing.
Where are the rest of the writing tools on my phone?
In the chapter editor, swipe the formatting toolbar sideways or tap More tools →. That reveals alignment, scene breaks, text conversations, and Writer Tools. Your chapter stays in place while you browse them.
How does the Request Desk work?
Post a story idea you would like to read, or save someone else's request. Writers can choose an idea and use Link My Story to attach their published Ghost Margins work. A request does not guarantee a story, and more than one writer can respond.
Does Ghost Margins have comments?
Yes. Published chapters can have general comments at the bottom and optional margin comments attached to individual paragraphs. Readers who prefer a quieter page can hide margin comment markers in Settings.
Can I report a comment?
Yes. Use the Report option on a comment or margin note, including for spam, unsolicited sales pitches, or suspected scams. Comment reports are sent privately to site moderation for review.
What are the rules for comments and margin notes?
Comments and margin notes are for discussion, reactions, and respectful feedback. Do not use them to harass, threaten, spam, shame, dogpile, impersonate, or share someone's private information.
Do not pressure authors to change pairings, endings, characterization, ratings, tags, plot choices, or other creative decisions. Disagreement and criticism are allowed, but repeated demands, targeted pressure, or attempts to tell an author what they are allowed to write may be removed.
Fanfiction does not need to follow canon unless the author wants it to.
What should I do if I find content that breaks the rules?
Use the Report button on the published work. Reports are sent privately to site moderation for review.
What content is allowed on Ghost Margins?
Ghost Margins allows a wide range of fictional content, including dark, mature, controversial, and explicit themes. Works must follow applicable law and the site rules. Fictional content is not removed simply because someone finds its subject matter uncomfortable or offensive.
What content is not allowed?
Content that violates applicable law, harassment, threats, spam, or other violations of the site rules may be removed. Reports are reviewed before moderation action is taken.
Does reporting a work automatically remove it?
No. A report sends the work to moderation for review. A work will not be automatically removed simply because it has been reported.
What does muting an author do?
Muting is a discovery preference. When you mute an author, their works are hidden from your browsing and discovery experience. Muting does not block that person from interacting with you or your works.
What does blocking a user do?
Blocking is for interaction control. A blocked user cannot comment on your works or leave margin notes on your chapters. Blocking is separate from muting so readers can choose whether they want to hide someone's works, restrict their interactions, or both.
Where can I manage muted and blocked users?
Settings includes a People Controls section where you can review your Muted Authors and Blocked Users lists. You can unmute or unblock someone there at any time.
